a year agoAll of the little girls for whom I make doll clothes love these mermaid sets. The shell pattern looks like fish scales. They are easy to make, but you need to make some adjustments. The pattern is not sized correctly. My stitches are loose; I usually need to go down a hook size. I used the size I hook and although the gauge was correct, the bodice barely went around the doll. I had to modify the pattern. First I did not put a seam in the bodice. I added a button loop to row 8 of the bodice, and put a button on the other side. This makes it easier to get on and off the doll. [I used a smaller hook for the loop and I found some fish and some seashell shaped buttons.] Second, I went up a hook size for the body and worked it in the round, connecting the rounds and turning it. This eliminated seaming, and gave a little wiggle room to the body. When I used the pink, the tail came out a little flimsy. The Super Saver Paddy Green was stiffer and looked better. I notice that the doll in the photo seems to be one of the ones sold in big craft stores. These are narrower in the chest and hips than the pricier dolls. This might account for the size problem.Yes, I recommend this product.
Helpful?Clarity of Pattern, 4.0 out of 54 out of 5 stars.a year agoThere are some missing steps. For example, the pattern does not mention skipping stitches in the fin. The pattern is very cute though.Helpful? -
